Kohaku

Kohaku are arguably one of the favourite if not the most popular Koi kept in the hobby today. The very reason for this is not hard to fathom - a good quality Kohaku with crisp clean red (hi) patterns on a snow white body background makes for a stunning sight, and unusual for any fish.

Kohaku essentially are white fish with red colourings. There are many variations of Kohaku and these are characterised by their different body patterns. These variations are considerable and literally each Koi is unique. Patterns serve as fingerprints on Kohaku and although there are many appreciated patterns there are a few guidelines as to what one can or should expect from a top quality Kohaku.
